Two years ago we opened up the new site for new jobs in manufacturing right here in the 37th ward. Back then we know what we know today: We need a new job pipeline. In the Midwest, there are more jobs around manufacturing than we can fill. I stated in this old article then and I say it again now. We have to change the perception of what we are providing for our youth. Schools are starting to put vocational education back into the classrooms but we need to do more. We have to remove the stigma of manufacturing and create more direct pathways directly out of high school and beyond for our youth. There are too many opportunities to pass by and we need to make sure we are on top of it.
